This is a remodel and addition to a 70's raised ranch that needed to be modified to accommodate the client's need for accessible design.

Southwest Portland Ranch 'Phoenix'

This was a renovation project initiated by an accidental fire that caused extensive damage to a home already in a state of renovation. My clients chose to take advantage of their misfortune and rebuild their home, not as it had been, but in a way that would allow them to make better use of their space both internally as well as externally. The new plan creates an integrated, open living area where the functions of kitchen, dining and family areas all enjoy a new immediate connection to each other as well as with a wonderful, spacious back yard. 

Southwest Portland Ranch Rising 'Phoenix'

Clarke Residence

This is a new residence in Portland's Southwest Hills that features sustainable and accessibility design features. The aesthetic was derived by interpreting the client's appreciation for Northwest Modern and Asian designs along with some Organic design qualities introduced by the architect.  

Hortensia's Home

This is a remodel and addition to a 1970’s ‘Mission’ style home that was originally built by Hortensia and her husband. Hortensia’s wish was to enlarge her kitchen and take better advantage of the Willamette river views their original plan had not allowed for.

Osterlund Residence

This was a Renovation/Addition to a modest Southwest Portland Ranch home that included adding new space to enlarge an existing Living Room, provide space for a new ‘Home Office’ and develop a new Master Bedroom Suite. 

The Osterlunds were employed in the teaching profession over seas when I was first introduced to them through their realtor. I eventually met with Donn and Diann during one of their brief returns to Portland. Because the Osterlunds had a very tight budget to work with, I proposed developing a design for their house in conjunction with a builder from the outset so I could get immediate feed back from the builder as to what costs would be as I developed ideas for the Osterlund’s home, and could make modifications on the fly in order to meet the Osterlund's desires, while at the same time stay within their budget.

I introduced the Osterlunds to a builder I had worked with on several projects, Modern/Organic Construction, and knew them to be reasonably priced and highly competent in their skills, and since this was a situation that would not be a typical competitive bid process, it was imperative to have a builder who I knew would be both fair with their pricing and competent in the execution of the construction. 

Progress on both the design and then the construction continued, while the Osterlunds were over seas, through correspondence via the Internet and the occasional visit to town by Donn and Diann.  A successful realization of the Osterlund’s project was achieved by frequent and carefully considered communication and feedback by all the parties involved.
